Not to be sour, but resolutions never really work out for me. I set them and then before the week is over I've already toed the line. And by the end of January I've gone across the line so far, it's a dot to me. (Friends - anyone?) So this year - I'm resolving to not resolve. Instead, I'm resolving to set goals. Some of you may be rolling your eyes - wondering if I've ever looked at a thesaurus and seen that "resolutions" and "goals" might be just about the same thing....but hear me out!

Goals have a much friendlier air about them - an aura of achievement and aspiration. Resolutions were always more about discipline and discernment. Or at least mine were. Maybe you've set more joy-based resolutions than I have in the past. Maybe I need to resolve to become a better resolver? Time was painstakingly slow with resolutions, just trying to make it through another week. But with goals, I've got the entire year lying in front of me, luxuriously ample with time in which to reach these goals I've set for myself. So I'm jumping in both feet first and some cute shoes to boot.

Some of my goals are personal, but I wanted to set some goals for the blog and the business, because in the deepest, softest, most authentic parts of my heart, I really do yearn for Bon Haven Interiors to be more.

So I'm setting goals.

goal-setting worksheet from Life Lived Beautifully

G O A L 1 // consistent content

This is simple, straightforward, and most importantly - achievable. I have worked hard to provide consistent content for you since we launched in June and I want to continue to do the same in the coming year. So i'm setting the sustained goal of bi-weekly posts, vacations and holidays aside.

G O A L 2 // focus in, zoom out

I would very much like to focus in on some more specific aspects of design with you this year. But at the same time, I want to push myself to zoom out and include aspects and perspectives that are not naturally in my wheelhouse. After all, the whole idea of this is growth, right?

G O A L 3 // foster communication

The first six months of BHI have been a pretty one-way street - me feeding content out to you. Of course that's that's the essential design of a blog, but I would like to make an effort to have more communication with readers. What exactly this will look like, I don't know. This is one of the more higher-aspiring goals on the list, one that's still in the developmental stages.

G O A L 4 // face the camera

You may have noticed that I've been testing the waters the past few weeks with this one - I would like to have increased video content on the blog. I had a recent conversation with some friends where they were highly encouraging about getting in front of the camera more often - putting my actual face on the blog and sharing my personality a bit more. Apparently, they think I'm worth listening to. (Thanks, guys!) One friend said that I have a "magnetic personality" and I quite sincerely think that is the best compliment I have gotten in. my. life. So we're going to step out in faith with this one and try to put a little more personality on the blog for ya.

G O A L 5 // create community

This goal is still certainly blog oriented, but begins to cross into the personal realm too - to connect with local bloggers/designers. The purpose being to learn, grow, collaborate, and spur one another on. I'm certainly new to the game, but would love a community of people from this creative sphere to commune with, brainstorm with, dream with. On a more specific level, I would be out-of-my-mind-thrilled if I could attend one of any number of blog/design conferences this year. Goal set. Gauntlet thrown.

So in support of goal #3 foster communication, tell me, what is one goal or resolution you have set for yourself this year? Leave me a note in the comment section below!

#2

Bring in some greenery or fresh flowers. Guaranteed to bring a little more life to any space.
