Boxing Day might be my new best friend.

Some people train for boxing, I train for Boxing Day. This was my first Boxing Day where I actually engaged in the (Americanized) festivities and you better believe I'll be doing it again come 2018. (eek - can't believe that's even on the horizon, the very very very distant horizon.) I mean just look at this abundance of beautiful furniture - so many pieces discounted, with so little competition!

The traditional idea behind Boxing Day comes from England, where in light of the recent bounty of gifts received over the holidays, people spend the day boxing up and donating the things they no longer need. An admirable activity that I think is a good ritualistic purge after the binge of the season. However, we as Americans don't know the meaning of the word "purge" and took the holiday to mean something else entirely. The Americanized version of Boxing Day is stuffed full of post-Christmas sales. It has essentially become Black Friday's little sister.

I had not truly taken advantage of this day in the past, but this year I heard from some friends that they make it a tradition of going out with the girls each year on December 26 to sweep through their favorite stores. Thus, my first Boxing Day was inspired.

Mom and I set off Monday morning to canvas our favorite decor and clothing stores, and we did not walk away empty handed. We swept through Wisteria Outlet, Crate and Barrel, Nadeau, Anthropologie, Belk, Nordstrom, and Dillards.

By far, my best purchase of the day was this acrylic trunk for a mere $50 (yes, you read that right). Marked down from the original $899, I scored it at a meager 95% discount due to some minor scratching on the top. Now, I do believe that it was grossly overpriced to begin with, but I'm not complaining because it just makes the discount seem that much sweeter! I have yet to find its home in my apartment, but no doubt when I do you will read a post all about it, I promise.

I also snagged one other very lovely, very affordable item from one of the pictures above. Stay tuned to find out what fun piece of furniture has been added to my Bon Haven Apartment!
